College Gardens Elementary School Reviews

Wonderful school with many unique opportunities to elementary aged children. CGES has the PYP program, Chinese Immersion, and an Austism program. The school is very diverse and it celebrates that diversity. The staff seems very committed to the children and immediately we felt at home and welcomed. It amazes me that all the staff members seem to know each child personally. I have been pleased with the school's response to any questions or concerns I have had regarding my child. Lastly, I am very pleased with the school's ability and willingness to challenge my child academically.

I believe the problem in that school is the Principal Mr. Dupont. He is not open to suggestions when it comes to how to improve the schooling in the establishment. Hoe overly controls his staff and use his authority as a principal to try to even control the parents in their say about the ways to improve the school and THEIR KIDS future. Yey he does not have great idea / transforming ideas with all due respect. His unnecessary controlling agenda even expands to making the parents' parking or eeven drop off drive a stranding adventure. That said I believe the teachers are great and would certain do better if they had are better leader than what they have now.

Principal is highly involved but over-controlling; he keeps parents at a distance from meaningful involvement with their children's education, while creating the pretext of a partnership with getting them involved in school spirit and fundraising activities. Teacher quality is uneven. Extracurriculars are varied and very good. Parent involvement seems high. Discipline is tilted a bit too much toward creating an institutional feel in the school. School needs to correct the fortress school environment, and treat parents like real partners.

We couldn't be happier with College Gardens! The school has a great sense of community and the parents are very involved. The pricinpal and teachers are open and caring. The IB and Chinese programs are top notch. It is a unique opportunity for elementary aged children. The new school is wonderful as well.

This is an excellent elementary school. The new principal (started 2005) has really changed it for the better, teachers are excellent, test scores are way up, it has the only International Baccalaureate program at the elementary level in the whole state of Maryland and a countywide Chinese Immersion program. There is great parent involvement, active PTA, the diversity of the student body is celebrated. My daughter is really happy. And the new building is state of the art... Everything a parent could ask for.

Absolutely wonderful staff! My son has absolutely blossomed in this environment, and loves to go to school every day. Everyone in the staff clearly loves children, and that is evident in the spirit of love and support shown to all of the kids.

I am impressed with the dedication and professionalism of the teachers and staff. The communication with parents is excellent, and the program is top-notch. College Gardens is excellent.

I have been so pleased with the quality of staff and administration! The change of principle that occurred in 2005 was for the best. I have found that the teachers are very professional and able to attend to both higher and lower-functioning students.

My children attend this school and it's a great school. The new principal is fantastic. He's very involved with the school, hard-working, great at communication and it's obvious that he genuinely cares about the students and community. We are very satisfied with the school, quality of instruction and the quality of teachers.

In 2005, the change in the principle leadership has put forth a loss of experienced teachers as well as the change to an inferior math curriculum (MCPS). Too much teaching to the test for funding is obvious. There is hope on the horizon when the kids come back to their new school in 2008 and we do look forward to getting better leadership and more experienced teachers again.
