Manor Woods Elementary School Reviews

Great test scores are NOT indicative to a high degree of what the teachers are doing; it is indicative of the students who are there- just responding to the previous reviewer. The scores could be HIGHER if the teachers changed things up a bit, & weren't apathetic in some ways. Since when does talking on your cell phone DURING instruction time increase a child's test scores?! Something I've seen way too many times in my time at the school, about time I look into the use of cellphones during instruction time if the Administration & other teachers won't address it. I'm all for a loving, caring, friendly environment however there seems to be a lack of motivation for some of the long time teachers at the school. Administration- the change of the VP hasn't really seemed to do much there- Principal is a great guy, but let's change in + ways.folks.

This is truly a great school. We moved 15 miles across Howard County just so our kids could go to this school, Mount View MS and Marriots Ridge HS. This elementary school is much better than the previous HoCo ES that we were in. The parents are VERY involved, the teachers are excellent and they have so much to offer. My kids love it and are very happy we moved!

I am over the moon for this school!!! The teachers are so caring and involved. The entire staff is so kind. The principal really loves his work. I have nothing bad to say except I am sad Ms. Merical is leaving.

I am disappointed in the reading program at Manor Woods Elementary School. It does not follow the National Reading Panel's scientifically supported recommendations for what a reading program should entail. Manor Woods uses a whole word approach to reading with a few phonics rules imbedded in the reading. The school does not screen for reading problems in kindergarden but rather wiaits til a child has fallen 2 years behind in reading to provide an IEP for a reading disability and won't diagnose dyslexia stating it is a 'medical condition'. Therefore we have had to find outside tutoring to prevent our child from falling further behind in reading.

I love MWES. Its a great school and we moved to this area becoz of this school . My daughter is in kindergarten and loves going to school . Teachers , the staff are all great. Teachers are so dedicated, loving and friendly with the kids. ESOL program is also great . My daughter started from a level where she could just speak simple english to a level top in the class. Its becoz of the teachers encouragement and dedication. Thanks to all kindergarten teachers.

Manor Woods Elementary School is staffed with professionals who truely care about your childs education. They consistently teach and evaluate your child to ensure they are learning and quickly act to institute extra help when needed. The academic programs are excellent and challenge your child to do there best. There is an excellent media center and computor room. This school has music, art, and physical education programs included in the curiculum and from the third grade on there is music instruction in strings and band .Also there is choir in 4th and 5th grade. Participation in these music groups is voluntary. The PTA is active all year long and provides a back to school picnic, cultural programs, and a fun day festival at the end of the school year. The teachers and the administrative staff encourage parent participation and provide several different ways for parents to volunteer at the school.
