Edgewood High School Reviews

My son attends EHS from abroad and the school and teachers have done everything possible to help him adjust. The teachers are passionate about their fields and truly care about the students.

We are to be Juniors at Edgewood and it has always been a good schol to go to. Some people would say that it its full of criminals and what not, but the teachers and everyone are nice to us. The people that accually go here would tell you the same thing, but the people that only listen to the news are wrong. Since the news writes only about whats wrong about our school, they don't know the whole story. Truthfully, the people that give us the reputation is the new people that come from other schools starting stuff that gets in the news. ~Jessy, Morgan, Char~ '10'

i also think that edgewood high school's reputation is very over exaggerated. my children go to edgewood high and they are very well round and good students. i think the faculty is doing a great job and go beyond their duty to protect and to teach our kids.

People talk a down on Edgewood a lot, but it is actually a great school. It is a lot better than some of the other schools in the district. At this school the students and teachers are cool and let you be yourself and you still learn. One of our future presidents may come out of Edgewood. Alot of currently successful people already did. Don't get me wrong, Edgewood is definately not perfect, but it is an environment that feels like home. Many kids actually want to come to school everyday that goes to EHS, and some go to court to make it legal for them to go to Edgewood High and Edgewood Middle because they don't like the school that they live by. Also, some parents want their children to go there instead of the school that they are supposed to go to.

My daughters graduated from EHS in 2004 and 2005. Both received a fantastic education and are having great success in college. I serve on the County Board of Education, and EHS comparies favorably with schools around the county and the State. If I had the chance I would absolutely choose to send my children to EHS again. The Principal and staff are very strong and they care about the students. EHS offers many advanced & AP courses; will begin an International Baccalaureate program next year, and is being completely rebuilt and will open as a brand spanking new building with the latest in design and technology in 2010. Activities from drama to music to sports are first rate, and provide many options. A local foundation provides scholarships for post-secondary education. EHS is a great place to prepare for the world after High School.

I am just a little freshman at Edgewood High. At first I was very nervous about it. I attended Edgewood Middle with no problems, but still, people were saying that the high school was worse than the middle school. Do not believe a single thing you hear about Edgewood! The 'violence' people talk about is exaggerated and even untrue sometimes. Parents, do not be afraid of Edgewood. You can't get a better education anywhere else!

I am a student at Edgewood High School and I think that our school's reputation is extremely exaggerated, there is nothing going on in Edgewood that isn't going on anywhere else. Our school is improving greatly by including more clubs and organizations; the academy of finance is unique to Edgewood, no other school in Harford County has it. The halls are certainly crowded, but its well worth it. Edgewood is the most diverse school I've eve been too, not only in ethnicity but also in talent and skill (sports, art, music, academics, school evolvement). Over half of our basketball team made principal's honor roll. I am proud to say that I am a student at Edgewood High.

I graduated from Edgewood in 2002 and I just graduated from Transylvania University, a highly recommend and highly thought of school in 2006. I'm glad that I was able to attend Edgewood, it was the best experience of my life. There are so many diverse people and activities. I played three sports and was one of the top 30 in my class. The staff helped me to earn scholarships to attend college and fill out applications. I would recommend Edgewood High School to anyone and everyone!

I am a former student of all the Edgewood schools.I graduated in 2002! I had lots of fun in Edgewood with friends and teachers. The teachers there are great, some of them anyway! The staff was always there for me when i needed them wheather it was for homework or just support pd. Thank you so much Edgewood High staff! Parents let you children go to Edgewood its not as bad as everyone says!

I graduated from this school in 2005. Do not send your kids to this school! The school has only the bare minimums when it comes to activities, clubs, and elective courses, (There are only 2 foreign language options: Spanish and French.) the facility is almost in ruins, and the school has almost no budget whatsoever. Also, the staff does not trust any of their students. They will not listen to arguments no matter how calm and civilized they are presented and suspensions are given at the drop of a hat for minor offenses.

I graduated in 2004, quite frankly this school is for sports only. The teachers could not have cared less about the students, and at no time did ANY teacher speak with me about SAT's needless to say I missed out.. Thanks EHS Staff!

I graduated from Edgwood High School in 2003 and I absolutly would recomend this school to any parent. I dont believe that everyone should listen to everything they hear about Edgewood Middle or High. Never in my two years attending the High School or my three years attending the middle school did I ever feel unsafe. As far as the teachers go, I believe almost all the teachers I had were far above average. I even go back sometimes to visit just to say 'Thank You.'

I am currently a junior at Edgewood High. I would like to say that the violence is not really as bad as its reputation makes it seem, but the school is, quite frankly, poor. I would much rather be somewhere else. The school is dirty, it leaks all over the place when it rains, and there are often missing cieling tiles throughout the halls. The bathrooms and dirty and most of them have at least one stall or sink that is permamently broken. Some of the paper towel holders on the walls have been taken off, probably by students. The school has a low budget, and when it could spend money on new textbooks or desks/chairs or computers, or working heating/airconditioning for the whole place, they spend it on the football team and other sports, which in my opinion is not as important. And the expectations/standards are very low.

My daughter is a sophomore at Edgewood. To be honest, when she was in elementary school, I was concerned about her attending Edgewood Middle and High. I am happy to say that I have not a single bad word to say about this school. They teachers are wonderful. The violence is, as another review stated, extremely exaggerated. There is nothing going on at this school that isn't going on at any of the other high schools in this County. I vehemently defend this school to anyone who knows it only by the bad reputation it has unfortunately acquired.

I want to assure everyone that Edgewood High School maintains high standards for its students. I graduated in 1995 and went to Yale University and finished my degree in Chemistry. From there, I was accepted into Johns Hopkins University for a Master of Science degree in Biotechnology with a concentration in Biotechnology Enterprise. I would not have changed one thing about my experience at EHS. I've gotten an Ivy League eduation from the supportive faculty at Edgewood. Do not go by what the public says about this high school. I've known many other graduates who have finished at top tier schools and have gone on to finish graduate degrees.

I am a parent of an Edgewood High School senior and have a daughter who graduated in May 2003. I just wanted to say that Edgewood has provided my girls with an excellent education and the teachers have been available for help and guidance. My daughters have been in Honors and AP classes and have been on the honor roll every quarter of all their years at Edgewood. The violence reported in the papers is extremely exaggerated, they have the same level of violence as other high schools, which means typical teenage fist fights. Many parents are involved in the school, you would know this if you attended any of the school plays, band activities, or sports events. My oldest daughter is in her second year of college and is doing very well because of the education she recieved at Edgewood High and I would certainly recommend Edgewood High School.

Hello, I am not a parent like most of those posting reviews on this site, but I am a current senior (class of 2005) at Edgewood High School and I am very glad that many of you seem to enjoy Edgewood. I do not understand why so many people dislike this school. We have great after school activities and there are some really wonderful teachers here. I am looking forward to taking AP classes next year. Also the band and the marching band are some of the best in the county. I love Edgewood and it really is a great school no matter what the papers say.

The most troubling thing about this school is its safety, well lack there-of. There is hardly any parent involvement and the teachers leave much to be desired.

I have been very pleased with Edgewood High. It's student population is from both culturally and financially diverse backgrounds. I have one child who has been out for two years, and a daughter who is currently a sophomore, taking honors and an AP class. I have always found the faculty available and prompt in returning calls and addressing concerns. I am also pleased with the enforcement of a zero tolerance policy for unacceptable behavior. I look forward to my third child entering Edgewood High next year.

My son is in honors classes and is getting a good education. The teachers and administration care about the students. I recommend the school. Do not listen to the naysayers. EHS is just as good of a school as any other. Parent participation in a child's education makes a world of difference.

I have had three children graduate from Edgewood High and they loved the school. They could have gone to private schools but they chose to stay at Edgewood. Two have gone on to college and are doing great. One is in a four year State College and the other is in a four year Private College. One of the best things I think Edgewood has going for it is the fact that it has very diverse setting. If your looking for a great school for your child to attend that will teach them how to get along in a very diverse world, then Edgewood is that school, but if your looking to only expose your child to a hand picked society then please chose somewhere else.

I have one child still at Edgewood High and one that graduated last year. We have never had a problem with this school, there have been some great teachers there! My children have never been in trouble ( which this school is talked poorly about all the time!) All the kids that I knew while my children attended this school for the most part have been great kids! All schools have a few that aren't the best kids! But I can say nothing but good about the school, if I had to make a negative comment it would be that the school is over crowded. I liked Edgewood High School!

Our daughter attends EHS and is receiving a very good education, taking all the AP (Advanced Placement) courses she possibly can. Despite what you may hear, the courses offered at EHS are the same courses offered at other county high schools. There seems to be talk about the courses at EHS being substandard so that the children (who are supposedly substandard in their learning abilities) can pass the classes and graduate. This is absolute nonsense as all county high schools have to provide the same courses from the county curriculum. EHS has many, many wonderful extracurricular activities also in which many children and parents participate. I am quite proud to say that I graduated from EHS and our daughter is also!

I graduated from the infamous Edgewood High School, and I have gone on to receive my bachelor of science degree from Yale University. I am currently attending graduate school at Johns Hopkins to receive my master of science in biotechnology concurrently with my MBA. There should be no doubt in parents' minds about sending their children to EHS. Go Rams!

Edgewood High School had always had a reputation for being a horrible school with kids who do the wrong thing. But, that is very much not the case. In fact, Edgewood High now has one of the lowest drop out rates in the county. Edgewood High School is a great school with a great set of faculty and students who care about their school. Edgewood has several after school organizations , including National Honor Society, Leo Club, and Future Teachers of America (just to name a few). Also, Edgewood offers tutoring services for students who need help in a particular subject. So, when you are trying to find a school for your child, don't listen to what people tell you about Edgewood...it's a great school!

My daughter attended this school and the teacher quality was very low. This is not a good choice for your children to learn and be safe.
