I loved it, it mixed different types of people and it was fun and challenging for me and many of my friends. I remember that it had some overcrowding issues but I didn't really have a problem with it. As for preparing us for high school I think they did a fine job. I'm now an honor student and taking ap classes. The Teachers really don't teach, they just hand you a study guide that is almost a carbon copy of the test/quiz. As a result,students study skills are not developed for high school. Extracurricular activities? Oh, there are no extracurricular activities/sports. I went here from 6 to the middle of 8 grade and since i moved, i have realized how much better they handle kids and how they control the classes. This school is veyr involved in helping children get all the learning they possibly can. My only issue is that at my new school now, there are sports like football and basketball unlike Southampton. I understand that maybe there aren't enough volunteer's or enough money to support this, but I am sure that there are lots of kids who would support this with fundraisers to have sports. However, behavorial problems among students do exist but are handeled appropriately. Though, some are taken too seriously. Halls are extremely over crowded and impair students to arrive on time for classes. It is sponsored by Parks and Recreation. Parents serve as chaperones. SMS is only used as a site to hold the activity. Therefore, the problems that occur there are the responsibility of P&R and should not reflect on the school. It really isn't all that great as the other review says. it is very over crowded and sometimes there are 45 kids in one class. P.E. is the worst because sometimes we even have to go in the halls for gym because theres no more room. And fights happen often. expecially at youth center. thats our little dance thing that we have every other friday. In fact my friend just got beat up a few days ago. and there is another person who wants to beat my other friend up. but we do do some cool stuff in gym. We so archery which is the best. Even though the school is overcrowded, it runs smoothly & efficiently. All teachers are dedicated & willing to help the children be successful. Only complaint is P.E. class. Space in gym is limited so some classes are held in lecture hall. Activities I had in middle school are not offered at Southampton (i.e. tennis, archery, gymnastics/tumbling). Overall, most kids have a positive attitude, dress very nice, and enjoy being at the school. Fighing among the students is very infrequent. I applaud the zero tolerance for bullying among students. This school is wonderful. Thanks Mrs. Canavan for a job well done!”
