Thomas Jefferson Elementary School Reviews

Thomas Jefferson is a wonderful place to work! It's great to be a part of the TJ family. I have worked in other Baltimore City Schools and have never been treated as wonderfully as I am at TJ. The school is clean and safe and a great place for kids to learn both academic and life skills!

My 4 year old son loves this school just as much as I do! His teacher in Pre-K has helped him to hold his attention to learning much longer than I did at home when I began him on the 'Hooked-on-Phonics' program. He is so independent and eagerly seeks going back to school on Sunday's. I love the 'No Nonsense' approach the entire staff has at TJ. The enforce respect, responsibility, as well as achievement! This school is run like a Private School, without the tuition!

My son attended Thomas Jefferson for Pre-K and I was not too concerned because he is a very intelligent child and his teachers thought so as well for they had him in kindergarten classes for the first few hours of school to enhance his reading and math skills. I have a older son in 4th grade who I had in private school since pre-k because I was concerned about his academic needs but I took him out of private school this year and so far so good. His teacher is a bit stern which I love because he definitely needs it. He is in a larger class size than his private school but I feel he will get the attention and skills that he needs to excel academically. He loves the school and he seems to be showing a more grown up and responsible attitude since attending this school.

I am a teacher at Thomas Jefferson and feel lucky to work with such a great staff and wonderful group of children. This school is by far the best I have seen through Baltimore City and many county schools as well. Students are cared for a taught in a manner that is first-class and I enjoy going in to work each day to work with my kids!

As a community volunteer I continue to see constant love and attention paid to these children. Our principal works hard as does her excellent staff. I urge parents to go to the school and take a tour. The library, computer room, classrooms are fantastic. The halls are covered with the children's work. I talk to the students all the time in and out of the school and find them eager to learn and polite to me as an adult. Cannot wish for more. A tutor

Thomas Jefferson is an excellent school. The principal has recruited an inspired and motivated staff. She is accessible at all times. The school is spotless. The students seem hard working and well behaved. I volunteer at the school weekly.I am continuously impressed by the the staff and the children. The librarian is terrific and the the library itself is a wonderful place to be. I volunteer in the library and enjoy the environment. The art teacher is also amazing. Every wall is adorned. The computer lab is well equipped and delightfully decorated. The classrooms are full of wonderful work and engaged teachers. Take time to visit!

Looks are definitely deceiving ! I enrolled my children at T.J. elementary and the atmosphere really made me think everything was ok. The students are fine, however, some of the staff could be better trained. The teaching staff is young and either inexperienced or ineffective and in some cases, both. The kids bring home the same Math homework home over and over so you have no idea what they are doing in class. Teachers do not use blackboard, so you have no idea how your child is doing......and graded work is a joke, because you never see any ! I never received notification from teachers saying there is a test.......how am I to help them study ? If you're the type of parent who doesn't care, never visits the school and doesn't want to know what your child is learning, then Thomas Jefferson is the place for you !!

I am a community volunteer that provides resources and volunteer teaching to groups of children in literary studies. This year I have an advanced reading group. The teachers are very motivated and helpful. The children are well behaved and the atmosphere of the school is serious, work centered but also fun. A gret place to be.

This is a really good school. I was concerned about sending my grandchild to a Baltimore city public school, but this one is right on. Parents and grandparents are involved. None-the-less, more involvement is needed. I know it's hard now days with so many people having a hectic schedule; just do what you can. Even if it's just one day/month, or even seasonal. This school has PE, arts, and technology for the children. The teachers are high quality, and the principal works very hard at maintaining high standards among students.

This is a great school. The parents really care about the students, and the neighborhood is safe. The teachers care about the students, and try to make learning fun! The Principal and Vice Principal are wonderful and supportive, and there are plenty of specialists on location to help make a bigger impact in the classroom!

The teachers at Thomas Jefferson do a wonderful job educating my 2 children. They go above and beyond to ensure that my children reach their maximum potential.

Thomas Jefferson Elementary School is one the best schools in the Edmondson Village area. As well as Baltimore City. The school environment is very safe. The class sizes are appropriate. The teachers know the students and meet their needs appropriately. My son and niece are doing well and I appreciate the activities, events, resources, and after school activities provided to the chilren.

The fact that the Dept. of Ed. has not identified this school as 'in need of improvement is sad since it scores below average in most testing. The Special Ed program has children in it that need a higher level of service, while children who could benefit are continually mainstreamed. It is under enrolled since most families in the area send there children to private/catholic schools. Sadly, it is one of the 'better' City schools.

I have had 3 kids go through Thomas Jefferson, and my fourth child is there now. I have been quite happy with the school; I think my children have been very well educated there. It is a safe and orderly environment and the school boasts some of the best teachers I have ever known.
