Hamilton Elementary/Middle School Reviews

I have been really happy with Hamilton. My big concern right now is class size. It seems like a lot of people have discovered the school and it's growing very quickly. I love the focus on arts and science, but the essentials might get lost with big classes.

My children have been attending Hamilton Elementary/Middle School for 9 years. The teachers are excellent and really care about the children. The Principal, Mr. Murphy, has demonstrated strong leadership qualities and has implemented strong programs for the children. He is concerned about the well-being of the children and parents.

This was my son's first year at Hamilton in Kindergarten with Ms. Ward. My first encounter with the principal Mr. Murphy was a positive one. My son has done very well and is now going to the top first grade class. There were some concerns during the school year but after speaking with the teacher and Vice Principal I left feeling my son was in safe hands. Now my four year old who has an IEP in speech and language will begin school this year in Pre-K. I will provide a review for the next school year.

My children attend Hamilton Elementary/Middle School. The Elementary part of the school is Excellent. The teachers are great and my son has been on the Principles list for three years in a row. Th Middle school part needs some work. My daughter attends the middle school and I visit often, how can anyone learn is beyond me. the children talk to the teachers terrible. Everyone acts like there scared of the kids. They need alot of work. They have a new principle that seems totry hard but that part of the school is terrible. I would recommend the Elementary school part to anyone the Middle school needs alot of work.

There is now an Ingenuity Project in the middle school (see http://www.ingenuityproject.org/) . It is my son's first year with the school, and we have been very impressed with the principal, Mr. Murphy. My son comments regularly that the teachers really care about the students. He came from a very highly ranked school , but he has experienced more attention and innovation at Hamilton.

i love all the teachers!

I have to agree with the last review. This school is a diamond in the rough. My oldest child hates school and always has. Now, not only do my younger two jump out of bed in the morning to see their teachers, but my oldest barely complains about going. The kidnergarden teacher, Mrs. Robinson is awesome! My interactions with the principal have been good, but mixed. Is he the sort of person I would want to be friends with? No. Do I trust him to do what is best for my children? Absolutely. That sometimes makes him hard to take, but I'm not looking for a friend, I'm looking to get my kids into good high schools.

I was a little worried when I enrolled at Hamilton. But then I went to my son s awards assembly. At first was a nice normal assembly. But then the teachers called children who had got advanced on the MSA. I have never seen anything like it. First of all, it wasn t just one or two students. It was child after child. Second of all, the children cheered like they were celebrities. Then they had a parade around the room. I was shocked it was so amazing. I felt like crying. My son came home told me he was going to get an advanced score in math and reading. I believe he will. His math teacher is just amazing. She is kind, professional, and smart. His reading teacher can get a little smart and is hard to talk to, but she is a great teacher and she does care about the kids.

My family has a history w/ this school and I knew I wanted my children to attend. The new principal (this is his 2nd yr.) is great. He is very involved w/ the parents and students.

So far I love this school. My children rush me out the door in the morning to get to school on time. My children transferred to this school from a private school and my zone school for the kids wasn't the best. After Mr. Murphy heard what my family was going through and the reason my kids couldn't attend private school this year he accepted my kids even when the board of education couldn't careless. I like the way the teachers are concerned about the kids and every morning there is someone to greet the kids at the door in the morning. Most importantly I also feel that my kids are still challenged.

My children just transferred to Hamilton from another school. I thought their other school was nice, but last year they went to the summer school program at Hamilton. It was so good I transferred them to Hamilton and their doing so good. I think the second grade teacher Ms. Hury is great. I think the art teacher Mrs. Freedman is really talented too. My students love to go to school.

My daughter is entering the 6th grage at Hamilton this fall. So far, so good. We were invited to an open house this spring. I met the principal and he really seems to be interested in elevating the standard of the school even higher. I am very thankful for those who have written the reviews before me. My concern is parent involvement as it is vital to the success of our children as a whole. I intend to do my part and will encourage others to do so. I will try to remember to submit another review after the 2nd semester

Last year was my son's first year at Hamilton. I was skeptikal at first b/c I had heard so many negative things about city school. I was pleasantly surprised at Mr. Murphy's efforts to not only improve the schools, but the children as well.

I have two children who attend this school and I'm very much satisfied with their progress and the over all school performance. All school have areas of improvement but Hamilton is reaching out and determine to strive for excellence.

I have two children who attend Hamilton. It has been a pretty good school for years now, but I really appreciate the new principal's push to make it the best in the city. The biggest problem is that a large number of kids get transferred in from failing schools every year and I don't think the school gets resources to help them. Plus, since these kids aren't from the neighborhood they are not respectful of the community.

I think Hamilton is a good school aon its way to greatness. It is well equipped with good leadership and great teachers.

My daughter has been in this school since pre-k she is in 8th grade now ,we never have a problem in all this years the problem is that many peoples use the school system as a day care meaning that they dont participate in they kids education and when they do is to late

I have two children who attend Hamilton Elementary/Middle School and I am very pleased. The educational level is excellent for a public school and I recommend this school to any parent. The environment has change for the best and the teacher care about our childrens education.

I have sent all 4 of my children to this school. THey have all excelled in advanced education. 2 have moved on to higher level highschool City College. and Poly Technical institute. This this school well done.

This school has gone downhill eversince my oldest who is a sophmore now left there. there are too many fights, and the kids in my daughters 3rd grade class are talking about sex in detail. I would not recommend this school to anyone.

Hamilton is a very caring and production school. They encourage parents to get involved in the PTA and other student activities. I very happy my children attend this school.

well I have gone to Hamilton since i was in the first grade. I just graduated from the school this year. To be quiet honest the school is great. It has a great family like atmosphere.

This is the opinion of a child who has gone to this school for a long time... it's a good school and all. It mainly caters to the kids who do not learn; I transferred out becuase I wasn't getting a good enough education (thus, why I skipped a grade). Most of the teachers are nice (and every one who knows me thinks I'm excellent and I don't know why), but there are some who are really mean. The extracurricular activites are nice. Parent involvement isn't too good... there WAS no PTA. Safety is pretty good, though. Overall, this is a good school, but not the best.

I originally pushed for my child(girl)to go to Hamilton because it was such a clean and organised looking school. I went to the other Hamilton on Sefton Road after visiting this Hamilton and was disappointed. Hamilton Elementary/Middle is a fantastic place to send your kids. The office staff seem to really care about the results of their work and motivated in their interaction with the kids. Being K-8 the school sort of an extended family feel and the mixed race population has an excellent real world. I don't feel like my daughter is going to school in a bubble but is interacting with a variety of races and cultures. Mr Barnes(the principal) does a great job. Tour the school for yourself!
