Germantown Elementary School Reviews

I absolutely recommend Germantown. My daughter just finish kindergarden there and she received a lot of attention from the teachers and had a great time. Her classmates were very sweet and they all took care of each other. Her K's teacher was excellent, they have a wonderful K staff. The principal is very involved and he knows the kids names. The school's staff knows every kid and they are always aware of them and know where they are, you feel that you kid is well taken care of. The school is quiet and the children are well behaved. They do a lot of fun activities like international night, dominoes with dad, etc. Every parent in Annapolis should come and visit this school, before going for private. The school has excellent resources in its teachers, staff and programs. The new building will be built thanks to the efforts of the community.

Germantown is an excellent school that has made the best of its resources. It qualifies as a Title I school, but it has a private education feel with small class sizes and added teaching assistants. The parents are fully engaged now, and the PTA is extremely profitable due to their unique and original fundraising efforts. This has not always been the case, but the communities of Admiral Heights, Germantown and Homewood are all involved with the issues on the local and county level to get the necessary funding to upgrade the structure. It is amazing what a few years, lobbying, and some elbow grease makes. I hope I don't blow the best kept secret in Annapolis, but this may now be the best elementary school in the City.

Germantown has incredible resources, excellent teachers and a community spirit that is unsurpassed. My children, 2 boys ages 6 & 9, continue to excel, be challanged and have a strong love of learning. We are thrilled to have our children go to our neighborhood school nurturing a strong ethic of community, our environment and our selves. We soar!

I, too, would like to would like to get the world out about Germantown Elementary School. My daughter in her 4th year at Germantown, beginning there in the all-day Pre-K program and is now half-way through her 2nd grade experience. Each year we have been pleased, not only with her teachers, but with the school environment as a whole. It fosters positive values and peaceful resolution skills, respect for self and others, as well as creativity and personal growth and potential. We also receive quality support and attention our child is one of fourteen in her class! The parent involvement is strong and highly encouraged, and for those in the know, it's really Annapolis's best kept secret! Compare our test scores with other so-called Blue Ribbon Schools!

My son has attended Germantown Elem. since Pre-K and he is a third grader. The teachers are excellent and highly involved with the kids and there have never been more than 17 kids in my son's classes. Parental involvement is high. It is packed with parents at any school activity. The school is proactive in parent involvement by providing bus transportation to events for those parents who don't have a car available to them. The disciplinary system has high expectations but rewards the kids who meet and exceed them. They receive a first rate education. The scores are skewed in comparison to other schools since half the students are first generation Americans and Germantown's academic requirements are the same for all students. My son has earned 100% on his standardized math exams and I am proud to send him there.

There is a good to very good instruction given at this school using the county wide reading and math programs. 1/2 of the faculty is highly certified. Turnover was 33% last year and is expected to be the same if not higher this year. There is a 21st Century after school program which programs are determined by the administration. Parent involvement is low, partly because the principal does not encourage that and likes to manage the parent groups contrary to parent wishes.
