Broadneck Elementary School Reviews

We moved here 2 years ago from Ct. and we are so happy with our school. The principal, vice principal, guidance counselor, and teachers have been so incredibly supportive. We consider ourselves really blessed to have found this school.

Its a great school with lots of extra curricular activities. The PTA is very good and the Teachers very friendly.

Having been raised in the well-regarded Severna Park school system, and now raising our own kids in the Broadneck Elementary school district, we were pleasantly surprised that Broadneck seems to be easily on par with the best in Anne Arundel County. We have noticed none of the morale issues cited in another comment. While the 'open space' layout is one of the few negatives, my understanding is that Broadneck is next on the list to have full walls added. As for the complaint about teaching to the test, teachers throughout the state are more-or-less required to this. Whether this is good or bad, it's not unique to Broadneck. Finally, while one person commented on sending their children to private schools, keep in mind that such schools often employ teachers who lack credentials to teach in public schools. Going into debt for elementary education is far from necessary in this school district!

This school is all about it's status. They teach to the rated tests and neglect curriculum for the weeks leading up to them. Teachers refuse to use email and written communication is reluctant. Our child tested high in math, but very low in reading and after repeated requests for LD testing, the school refuses. On a good note, the extra activities are abundant and the PTO is excellent.

Broadneck Elementary is an excellent school. I have had children in this school for the last 12 years. All 3 of my children have thrived in this school because excellent teachers and staff. They were all nurtured and challenged academically. My oldest, who is in high school now at Broadneck High in all honors and AP classes got a great start at this school. His 4th grade teacher got the children's science project up on a space shuttle in 2001. It was a life changing experience for us all.

What a great school! The parents are what makes this school a success, and they have got to have one of the strongest PTO's in the state. Just try volunteering for a fieldtrip and you'll find yourself on the waiting list every time due to the overwhelming parent involvment. Most teachers are phenominal, although I would like to see them rely on email a bit more for communication to parents. One 5th grade teacher outright refused to use email to communicate to parents. Overall though, the teachers are all there to help the kids excel.

Broadneck used to be a top school. I have volunteered for years and watched the declining status academically and emotionally. Overcrowding and classrooms scattered (as well as outdoor trailers) with partitions separating instruction areas creates too many distractions and unhappy teachers/staff. My older child is leaving for middle school after this year and we will be sending our second grader to private school next year to avoid the downward spiral we see at Broadneck.

Great school, Great teachers and parent involvement. New principal has brought some wonderful changes.

Has a good reputation in the county but keep in mind most of the public schools here are horrible. Broadneck elementary has morale problems with the teaching staff. This isnt a bad school but the former open space design leaves much to be desired. On the plus a very active PTA and community support. There is a reason many kids go private in AA county.

The greatest elementary school in Maryland. Teachers are the best.

Excellent School! Extraordinary parent involvement, parent-teacher communications, brilliant program!

This school was great when we got here 3 years ago. Now it is starting to get so overcrowded. Some of the classes have up to 30 kids in them and the poor teachers have no aides to help. My daughter tells me that she raises her hand to ask questions and the teachers are too busy to help.
