Wiley H. Bates Middle School Reviews

We moved from Mont. Cty to AA Cty and were very concerned about putting our children in public school here. Our children are thriving. They are surrounded by diverse children (just like Montgomery County). Bates administration has a no nonsense approach to discipline that promptly handles any issues and keeps parents informed. They have a strong academic program, counselors are accessible and help you make the appropriate course placement for your child - my child is taking HS Algebra in 7th). Bates is incorporating an Arts Magnet program that my rising 6th grader will participate in the Fall. Bates is teaming with a sister school in Italy as well to share teaching ideas and strategies. More like a private school (including uniforms) for public school money.

This is a real good school. Now we even have smart boards.

Well every middle school you go to there will be hard times there but this school Bates middle is a great school. There are different diversities there and everyone comes together and helps everyone. I went to bates for one year only and it was the best year ever. My famliy would say you will never like that school but i did. I had so many nice teachers and the principle/assisntent principles are awsome i enjoyed being at Whiley H. Bates middle school with all the teachers and staff there. Bates gives you the knowlegde to learn and be smart without the pressure. Go to Bates and be amazed! Signed, Jayde Gibbon

Middles schools everywhere have issues, and Bates is not without their own. With such a diverse student body, there is bound to be lack of parent involvement in certain communities - but attend any musical performance or graduation ceremony and family and community support shines through. Discipline problems are a concern here and are a constant focus of the hard-working administration. The teachers at Bates are dedicated teams working together to create positive educational environments for all students. This year the county has implemented a mandotory school uniform policy for Bates, and I have personally witnessed what a welcome, classy change this has created on the school campus.

Bates Middle School has outstanding advanced academic programs. It offers an above average college prep curriculum, for those students that qualify. There are many club activities available, although there is no interscholastic athletic program. The school has some student discipline issues, and some students feel the school allows a threatening environment. There is a high level of parent involvement for many students, but zero parent involvement for a large part of the student body.

Bates is the fifth school that I have been to and it also has to be my favorite. The guidance counselors are great and you have the same one each year so they get to know you. The teachers are always willing to help and the principal is also really nice. This school also has good discipline and rewards you highly for being a good student.

I was a student there a few years ago (2000 and 2001..i think). Let me just say, dont let the numbers scare you, this school has taught many great life lessons, i value my time there greatly, it is dfeinately worth going to, if simply for the 'multicultural experience'. i cannot say how much i loved this place, GREAT teachers, guidance counselours and an AMAZING administration, if Mrs. Stevenson and Mr. Trotter are still there, you are indeed VERY fortunate...I respected their views as to discipline etc. and they had exceptional talent at befriending the students, espescially me. As you can see, this may not be your first choice, but at least give it a chance, Im glad my parents did, my experiences here will mold/have been molding my life since I've left and I will always cherish the real life experiences I had here. Don't be sheltered, go to Bates!

has great guidance counselors. my favorite was ms.spinney. good learining levels.
