Emmanuel Lutheran School Reviews

Emmanuel really stepped up it's game this year! They now offer pre-algebra, algebra, and foreign language. Better still, they have created an array of extra curricular activities that are fun for all the kids. My personal favorite is Club Rap, where the kids get to sit together and discuss important issues as well as do creative activities!

My children are alumni and have taken the Christian values they experienced at Emmanuel to high sdchool, college, and into their careers. The Christ-centered learning environment is challenging and supportive of individual needs. Church-sponsored before and after school care continued this environment. There is a family atmosphere of firm but loving discipline. Middle school students are active in the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Students grow and plant Bay grasses and oysters. They have planted 1000s of trees in the past 10+ years for the Md Department of Natural Resources. My children and many of their friends love to return to walk the hallways and reminisce with their former teachers and pricipal.

Living in a not so great area of town, we searched for a good school for our son. We found that school at Emmanuel! The staff puts in a great deal commitment to show the students they care. We are truly blessed to have found a school that has such a great staff and a superb principal who takes the time to get to know each and every student by name. He even made a home visit before we started there. You can't ask for a more supportive system than that - they certainly don't care that much in public schools. My child started here in kindergarten and will continue up through 8th grade. I only wish some of the parents of the kids at this school would get more involved in the PTL and show their support as much as the staff does!

The academics in this school are top knotch. The teachers and staff are attentive and work hard to give the best education possible. My child has been challenged and has become an A student because of the teachers at this school. Alumni from here can attest to the fact that they are placed in excelerated/gifted classes when moving into high school after leaving here - which is all attributed to the teaching skills in this school. The only downfall to this school is that it only goes to 8th grade instead of 12th, so we'll have to find a high school that is good enough to continue what excelling on my child has already learned here.

My daughter is in middle school and has attended Emmanuel since kindergarten. I love this school. The classes are small, the teachers are willing to work with the children and parents, and the teachers are well-versed in their subject areas. Christian values are practiced and weekly chapel held. The curriculum is reviewed regularly and changed as needed. The principal is dedicated and teaches middle-school math, which keeps him in touch with students. He knows each child by name and works with parents on any issue, either at home or school, that affects the child's ability to learn and his/her classroom behavior. Extra-curricular activities are limited, but given the number of sports, dance, and other activities the children participate in outside school, this is not a big issue. Before and after school care is available on-site for an additional monthly charge. Uniforms are required, which is great for parents. Love Emmanuel!

Both of our children attended Emmanuel and were well prepared for the educational opportunites they encountered after graduating from Emmanuel. They would often comment that books they were reading in high school were also in the middle school curriculum. They were use to taking mid-terms and finals since they had experience with these tests at Emmanuel. Our son went on to high level math courses in high school and college choosing a career in math. In middle school they were required to write research papers further preparing them for the future. But most important of all was the Christian and moral values they were exposed to and saw put into action day to day.

Our daughter attended this school from 2nd thru 5th grades. The elementary education was adequate. However, if you are looking for a middle school that will challenge your child academically, this is not the school for you. The administration has decided not to provide Algebra or a foreign language, e.g. Spanish or french to the middle school students. There are no extra curricular activities, except for band, which is an additional fee. The computer lab is inadequate and students are required to share computers. There are many discipline issues. This is not the school for parents looking for the best education for their children.

I love this school! The academics are excellent, the class size is good, the teachers are knowledgeable, involved, and caring. Everything is offered, computer lab, music, Latin, physical ed, etc. My son is in the middle school and he loves it here. The kids are taught from God's word and Chapel is beautiful. The principal is extremely involved and all parents are as well. I highly recommend this school if you are looking for strong academics and parent involvement.

Excellent academics! Plenty of parent involvement! My child is in the upper school and enjoys going to school. All teachers are wonderful! Excellent field trips as well.

My son has attended ELS since 1st grade and he has developed academically, spiritually, emotionally and socially. I'm please with his progress and the academic challenges he's given. The small classes affords him the attention he needs from his teachers.

My daughter has attended Emmanuel since she was 5 years old. The class sizes are very small. Parents are given monthly progress reports. The principal knows each child by name. Teachers are highly skilled and bring out the best in each child. Emmanuel is a safe, complete and balanced educational program for my child.
