St. Mark the Evangelist School Reviews

I have a child in the who has been at the school since Pre-School and one that graduated and is in High School. The school and community at St Marks is excellent. My children always felt safe and comfortable to attend school. The curriculum has not always been absolutely perfect, but I did notice with my older child that over the years each teacher taught very important lessons and methods of learning that are helping her tremendously in High School. Also, the time management skills my younger daughter learned in Pre-kindergarten were fantastic. My main regret is that I didn't start my older daughter earlier at St. Marks. Great school, amazing caring teachers and great parents who work hard to support the needs of the school It is such a diverse school that there isn't a child in the world that cannot fit into this school.

I have been a parent/parishioner of St. Mark's for over 12 years. Both of my children graduated and attend a local Catholic HS. I can in all sincerety say that they were both well-prepared for the rigors of a Catholic high school education. I don't agree with the parent that claims public school and other schools are better. Not sure how they concluded that. Most of the graduates of St. Mark's make the honor roll at their perspective schools. The teaching staff is very dedicated to the kids and have shown their commitment even with all the changes in the administration over the years. We also have made lifelong friends at this school as have our kids. It's a wonderful community!

Very good school. My daughter was well prepared for High School and was well looked after at St. Marks. There are some wonderful teachers at the school who really care about the students and really know how to bring out the best in each child.

This is our 5th year at the school, and each year the school is getting better and better. While there were some issues in the past with the Administration - there has been a great improvement in the last two school years with a new Principal and a new Pastor! Both have a commitment to quality education, and it shows! The teachers have always been great and show great interest in the child as a whole. Academics and values are taught hand in hand. This is a great school community, with great diversity in the student body, the parish, and the staff.

This is a great school! The new Principal has been the best thing for the school. The community is caring, the academics are great, and the teachers are very good. The school is diverse.

My son has thrived in high school, in large measure due to the foundation he was given at St. Marks. There, he was viewed as an entire person -- shy, weak in some areas, strong in others and growing and changing daily. I found the staff and the administration responsive, the parents and parental involvement terrific, and an overall terrific experience. (Note, I didn't use the word 'perfect' but perfect doesn't exist.) I still miss the community we all found at this wonderful school.

My children have been going to St. Mark's since pre-school. The teacher's are very helpful and the school is very accomodating especially to children with learning disabilites.

Our two oldest children graduated from St. Mark's and our youngest child is attending. We are very please with the education they have received. St. Mark's provides a nurturing, learning environment that well prepared them to take on the challenges of high school and beyond.

I am aparent of a alumni. My son went to ST.Marke's from first grade to eigth. He had many wonderful friends and experiences . As a parent I was very involved and developed a bond with the school. The teachers were very good. My son went on to catholic high school with a good start. I will be very sad to see this school close and hope as parents we can come to thier help and continue a good thing.

I have been a parent and volunteer at St. Mark the Evangelist for over 20 years. I have always trusted my four children to the school, parish and staff of this fine institution. They have been there for my family in good times and bad. Not only did they bring forth a fine education for all of my children, but they were always supportive in the struggles and triumphs that families encounter. The teachers are the finest I've seen and many have achieved the highest awards and honors for their service and dedication. The staff, although constantly busy, always took the time to assist and guide. The parents that I have met in my time at the parish and school have become life-long friends and long after graduation we have continued to meet and gather to reminisce. Never doubt that this school can deliver...my children are proof!

St. Mark's has been extremely welcoming to us as a new family. The facility is excellent, far better than other elementary schools in the area. Our son's teacher is great - she challenges the students, but provides lots of encouragement and the support they need. Our son is in the band and on the basketball team, activities that were not offered at his old school. Overall, we are very happy and grateful to have found St. Mark's and would highly recommend it to other families looking for quality pre-K through 8th grade schools.

I have had 3 children in St. Mark's, one is a college grad with his CPA, one is now completely her degree. One in 5th grade. The school is great, she loves school. Her teachers are outstanding, creative, and require hard work. (2 field trips already this year to DC. Band, sports, safety patrol.) My older childen were very prepared for HS at Dematha and Science & Tech at Roosevelt. Couldn't ask for a better environment where they learn education. respect and caring.

My son has been at St. Mark's since he was in kindergarten. The teachers here are absolutely the best! They are not only intersted in my child's academic growth and development, but also his overall growth and development. My son's testing scores for the standardized tests were all above the national average. My younger son is now at St. Mark's. I wouldn't trust their future in any other hands. They both thrive at this school. It's the best education at very affordable price. Also, lots of academics and extra curricular activities. My children are safe and are learning christian values. It's a well-rounded school, and the parents are involved!

I am a satisfied parent of a child who attended St. Mark's from 1st grade thru 8th grade and he was pleased with most of his teachers. The principal turnaround was unsettling. But all in all, I was happy that my son enjoyed his elementary years there. The band and choral programs were very popular! And the Christmas concert was always a joy to watch!

I think every school offers something different for families--depending on what you are looking for. St. Mark's now has an excellent Principal and Parish Pastor who has a long history in education. I use St. Mark's to educate my children because the teachers are academically superior; the curriculum is challenging; the CYO sports program is active and on the upswing; the school facility and fields are superior; and I like how my children are developing intellectually, morally, and spirtually at St. Mark's. My kids learn about social justice (annual Walk for the Homeless), participate in a science fair, write papers on topics that I want them to be aware of, like the Little Rock Nine, Medgar Evers, & the Supreme Court. St. Mark's is a diverse, international community-- this is a huge part of my kids' education. the school. My older kids say that St. Mark's prepared them for life.

My children have all received a great education at St. Mark's. My son was well prepared for his years at DeMatha and my daughter is a freshman in the prestigious science and tech program at Eleanor Roosevelt and earned straight A's her first quarter. Our remaining daughter at St. Mork's loves all aspects of the school. None of this would be possible without good leadership, dedicated teachers, a safe environment and involvement at every level.

I have been a parent at St. Mark's School for 7 years. We have been extremely happy with the education our three children have received. We have graduated two and they have gone on to Catholic high schools and they were very prepared and are continuing to do very well. While the school may have had administrative obstacles in the past, the EXTREMELY well qualified and committed teachers have remained and through their dedication have blessed the children with continued quality education that has NEVER suffered or been sacrificed at the hand of any other shortcomings. I highly recommend this school to anyone looking to ensure their child receive a quality education in a strong, Christian environment. Not only have my children made lifelong friends in this community, I too, have made friends I expect to keep for a lifetime.

The teachers were excellent and the principal now has an open door policy. My child went there from K-8 and is well-prepared for private high school and is achieving grades of A's and B's. This school prepared him well. The upper grade science curriculum is fantastic!

St. Marks has provided a great education for my daughters. I value the dedication of the teachers. Overall it has been a terrific experience.

My children attended St. Marks. They received an excellent education. The teachers and staff were caring and interested in not only their education, but in their whole development. I will admit that there was a period of principal change, but that has been resolved. The building is well constructed, the grounds are cared for.

As a former student I value the education I received at St. Marks. In the 2 years I attending I had a chance to learn from experienced teachers and made numerous friends. It would be a tradgedy to close the school!!!

I attended St. Marks from kindergarten through 8th grade. I have nothing but good things to say about it. I made life long friendships there, and still keep in touch with some of my teachers. After continuing my education at other schools, I still have never had as supportive and caring teachers as I did at St. Marks. I will always think of it as a second family and home.

I am an alum of St. Marks. While there I received an excellent education there. I am greatly disappointed that anyone would even consider shutting the school down and would think it to be a travesty if this would happen. This is an great school and if anyone decides to send their child there it would be a great opportunity for that person. Ms. P is the best science teacher I know, and has helped me excel in high school. Not to leave out the rest of the staff, but they all helped me be ready for high school and succeed even my expectations. I really think this school to be the best school around.

My daughter attended St Mark's from preschool to 8th grade. St. Mark's prepared and instilled some many morals, values and educated enhancements. Our experience with St Mark was so memorable and appreciative. Therefore, it is imperative that everyone comes together to save St. Mark's.

My child started St. Mark's in preschool. Since his time there I have regretted his years at this school. The curriculum is behind the public school system as well as fellow Catholic school within their district. The principals change just about every year. The school's morale is low as a result. The teachers are complacent and need to be motivated. The school seems to have lowered it academic standards rather than provide support to the academically-challenged. The building is old and in need of major renovations so much that some parents fear asbestos and mold in the building. The best thing about this school is the parent involvement and support. We would meet in the parking lot after dropping our students to discuss new and unpleasant discoveries about the school and staff.

My child has been going here since pre-school. The teacher's keep you interested and they use a method of learning that teachers understand. The teachers and students are full of heart. So many activities! Like church buddies, choir, and sports, and band! I love this school and nothing will ever make me change my mind about it!

The learning average is set to accomodate the students who have the most trouble in school. Few teachers demand any respect, thus resulting in huge discipline problems. We are going through principle after principle, and the principle for 2007 was the best in recent years. Now that he's leaving, I'm concerned for St. Mark's continuation as a school.

The new principal this year definitely helped us, and now that our mediocre priest is leaving, I'm sure our school will keep getting better and better.

They brought in a new principal who was there when the school was very good. Hopefully they can keep him. He has the school moving in the right direction. My kids are getting a good education in a safer environment.

Extremely, extremely disappointed with this school!

This was a very unfriendly environment. School is too big for the administration and too much time was spent on punishment and discipline. Mediocre education--average for a suburban school but not challenging for smart kids. Big diverse school, tho it was run/let by very conservative parishiners who went to the school when they were kids. Not a very sophisticated community. Too much focus on no and not enough on expanding thinking and knowledge.
