Mamma Mia at the Hippodrome, Baltimore This production will be in Baltimore for 6 days - over the Thanksgiving week - Tues thru Sunday. Pperformance lasts approximately 2 hours 30 minutes with intermission. Set in a beach resort in the Mediterranean, Mamma Mia! tells the story of Sophie, a bride-to-be with one wish: to have her absent father walk her down the aisle. After reading passages about three old lovers in her momÂ’s diary, Sophie sends each a wedding invitation in hopes of learning which is her dad. The arrival of the men from her past is surprising to Donna, SophieÂ’s fiercely independent mother, who prides herself on getting through life without a man, and highly amusing to DonnaÂ’s two best gal pals. The more Sophie and her mother struggle to find truth and understanding, the more it threatens to tear them apart and wreck SophieÂ’s dream wedding. This is one Broadway show where singing along (and dancing in the aisles) is encouraged. The show has full-on, high-energy to spare, with periodic breaks for ballads and drama. In three words? Fun. Fun. Fun. Location: The Hippodrome is located at 12 North Eutaw Street on the University of Maryland Baltimore campus, just three blocks west of the Mechanic Theatre and four blocks north of Camden Yards at the edge of the West Side revitalization effort. If you are coming from Washington, DC, as I am, you can take the Amtrack train for about $14 each way. I plan to spend the night in Baltimore.
