alethak's Bio
Born in Washington, DC, the artist has resided for many years in the metro area and been a frequent visitor to Washington’s museums, where she has studied old and modern masters. She graduated from the University of Maryland with honors in English literature. Three large commissioned works she painted can be seen in the City Hall of Annapolis, Md. She is a contributor to Edible Chesapeake magazine.
I love the freedom that art has brought into my life, love nature, love being outdoors and noticing what kinds of wonder and beauty are available in the most ordinary circumstances; I love animals, love drawing for the way that you can become lost in what you see. I think that much of the official art world has lost touch with the deeper meanings hidden behind the ordinary -- so much of contemporary art goes after the big jolt -- and the quiet meditation has drifted out of their perview. Real art is about, has always been about freedom and for me this freedom takes place in the freedom to pursue beauty even when it has gone "out of fashion." However, I dont' really think it has gone out of fashion except with a very eccentric segment of society. In the larger view, the humane character of the search for beauty is still vital. And it is a search. Beauty is something that you strive after and find after a long search.
