Lexington Market: the freshest of the fresh

Feb 7, 2010

Baltimore's Lexington Market is the country's oldest public market. Opened in 1782, The Lexington Market has been a Baltimore icon for a more than 225 years. American Revolutionary War soldier John Eager Howard donated the land for the market, which was named for the Battle of Lexington.

Well over 100 vendors call Lexington Market home, selling items like produce, baked goods, seafood, meat and poultry, gifts, deli, dairy and beauty supplies. Services like shoe repair, banking and tax preparation businesses also reside on-site.

If you're hungry, you won't be disappointed by Lexington Market's array of delicious prepared-food vendors. From fried chicken to scrambled eggs to burgers and hot sandwiches, there is no shortage of delicious meals at the market.

International shops from China, India, Italy and the Caribbean (among others) are available for many hard-to-find items.
