Trenbeath's Bio
I attended the University of North Dakota where I completed a BA in Visual Arts in December 2000. During that time I explored a variety of artistic styles and a number of different mediums such as bronze, ceramics, and oil paints, and also developed an interest in jewelry making and metalsmithing.
Realism largely defines my earlier pieces; Illustrations such as "The River" is a good representative of my style between 1996 and 2003: Polished, rich, and high in contrasts. The erratic, animated style seen in the figure studies "Erase 1" and "Erase 2" as well as in the oil painting "Trapped" represents a short period of my exploration in Expressionism. In the past year I have been revisiting this particular style and incorporating that sense of simultaneous tearing and ascension in my paintings.
My current body of work is a combination of fantasy, surrealism, and expressionism in oils with special emphasis on the human form. My most recent paintings retain the tenebrous and foreboding quality exhibited in earlier piece. At the same time however they also exhibit blazing light and energy, creating a striking juxtaposition of lights and darks.
